Stop 1

On our way to the Baldi Hot Springs we will take a break in a small town called Sarchi which is a key artisan town in Costa Rica. Sarchi, the town tucked in the hills of the Valverde Vega Canton of Alajuela was officially declared as the cradle of national craftsmanship in 1983. While in Sarchi, we will explore the Crafts Market, botanical garden, the town center and a beautiful Sarchi church where among history, nature and ambience, we will also learn and admire the culture, tradition, and beautifully diverse craftsmanship. We will have a chance to interact with locals, to see and learn about the national symbol of Costa Rica – the oxcart which played a key role in the country’s history. Oxcarts were used to transport coffee beans and other goods to nearby and faraway locations, markets and ports. Since 2005, the oxcart of Costa Rica is a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, declared by UNESCO.

Learn about the history of the area and the volcano, experience great panoramic views of the Arenal Volcano and Arenal Lake and enjoy the diverse natural ambience of the Arenal Volcano area. Arenal Volcano is also providing thousands and thousands of tourists with the opportunity to witness volcanic activity, such as the white plumes of smoke that emanate from the conical shaped behemoth.
