Our safari guide will collect you from the lodge in Arusha for the drive to Tarangire National Park (approximately 2 hours). Tarangire, best known for its elephant families, savannah, iconic baobab trees, and seasonal swamps, is home to the life-giving Tarangire River.
Animals gather at the river and giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest are often seen. The park is also home to buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. These animals are closely attended by a range of predators, our panthera friends, lion, and leopard.
From the open roof of the truck we will have the opportunity to absorb the landscapes and view the wildlife. After a full day in the park, we will drive to the excellently appointed lodge (Karatu) where we enjoy dinner in the aesthetically delightful restaurant, relax, and spend the night in her capacious rooms.
Rise and shine! It’s an early departure for us today to the lush highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the 8 wonders of the world.
Once we have reached the crater rim, we rumble down a steep track into the 600 m deep caldera, noting our passage through several climactic zones, to see a range of animals and birds.
The caldera (collapsed volcano) is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, to hippo, wildebeest, buffalo, zebra, elephant, hyena, and more than 500 species of birds. After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch in the crater, we will return to Arusha arriving in the early evening.
