About this experience

Here’s a guide to shopping in the Old Medina (Medina Ancienne) of Tangier — what to expect, where to go, what to buy, and tips so you get the best out of your visit.

Big square at the entrance to the Medina; lively, a gateway between “modern” Tangier and the old city.
Fresh produce, spices, olives; smaller cafés; good kick-off point to get a feel for prices and colors.
Petit Socco (Petit Souk / Zoco Chico / Souk Dakhli)
Smaller square inside Medina, more intimate atmosphere. Lots of cafés; more artisan and local shops.

bazaar in Tangier, that’s basically the souks inside the Old Medina — the traditional markets where you’ll find spices, carpets, leather, jewelry, and all kinds of handicrafts. Some people also call the big handicraft shops that sell many things under one roof “bazaars.”
