Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Piazza Navona is one of the most famous squares in Rome, built by the Pamphili family. Its shape is that of an ancient stadium: it was built in monumental style at the behest of Pope Innocent X.

2
Stop 2

We will visit the remains of the Domitian Stadium (Unesco heritage) which are located under Piazza Navona about 4.50 meters above street level; the archaeological area is what remains of the first and only example of a masonry stadium known to date in Rome.

3
Stop 3

The Pantheon is a building from ancient Rome located in the Pigna district in the historic center, built as a temple dedicated to all past, present and future divinities. It was founded in 27 BC. by Arpinate Marco Vipsanio Agrippa, son-in-law of Augustus.

4
Stop 4

The Trevi Fountain is one of the most famous fountains in the world and a true masterpiece of Baroque art. Designed by Nicola Salvi and completed by Giuseppe Pannini in 1762, it represents Oceanus, the god of the sea, riding a shell-shaped chariot pulled by sea horses. Tradition says that tossing a coin into the fountain ensures a return to Rome.

5

A few steps from the Trevi Fountain, over nine meters below today’s street level, the archaeological surveys carried out between 1999 and 2001 during the renovation of a cinema brought to light a large ancient residential complex. The term “City of Water”, commonly used to define the archaeological area of Vicus Caprarius, is however due to the element that undoubtedly characterizes the site the most. In the 2nd century AD, a large water reservoir was built in a part of the building complex, probably used until the 6th century AD
