Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Travel by cable car to Mount Isabel de Torres, located at 2,600 feet (812 m) and offering wonderful panoramic views of the city, here you can admire the majestic statue of Christ the Redeemer symbolizing peace.
The cable car has the function of going up to the popular Isabel de Torres hill, an elevation to the south of Puerto Plata of about 800 m in height. On the trip you can enjoy and admire the beautiful views of the city and the coast. Once at the top, the beautiful botanical gardens that surround the mountain offer the possibility of taking a pleasant walk. At the top of the hill, an impressive Christ the Redeemer welcomes the visitor with his arms outstretched.

2

The Central Park of Puerto Plata has become a perfect place to fully immerse yourself in Dominican culture and customs, since the park is one of the liveliest and most fun areas of the city.
Parque Central Independencia in Puerto Plata is one of the busiest and most fun meeting points in the area. This beautiful park is surrounded by palm trees and beautiful colored Victorian houses. In the center of the park you will find an impressive gazebo and bandstand that were built at the end of the 19th century and represent the elegance of Victorian architecture.

3
Stop 3

About 100 meters from the Central Park on Duarte Street, you will find the Museo del Ambar. An excellent example of Victorian architecture that houses a unique collection of valuable samples of Dominican amber. Experts say that this amber, known to be the most transparent in the world, qualifies as semi-precious. It is formed from tree sap that has hardened over millions of years, capturing many plant and insect fossils.

4
Stop 4

Located in the bay of Puerto Plata, at the western end of the boardwalk, this construction was built in the 16th century to defend the city from pirates. Now it is only the only vestige of Puerto Plata's colonial past.
In the fortress you can walk between its walls and see the moat that surrounds them. Inside there is a small museum with some historical pieces. Although the most attractive of this place is the lighthouse of Puerto Plata, which dates from 1876, and which is more than 24 m high.

5

Residents of Puerto Plata proudly claim that theirs is the most beautiful boulevard (Malecón) in the Dominican Republic. Later, you'll see why when you see the many white-sand beaches that line the city's main avenue, each with a name. In addition to days on the beach within the city, the boulevard's long, shaded sidewalk is ideal for morning or evening strolls - sunrises here are spectacular.
