Penang's Little India is a vibrant neighborhood located in George Town, the capital city of Penang state in Malaysia. It is one of the ethnic enclaves in Penang that showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Indian community.
The Kapitan Keling Mosque is designed on a curious mix of styles, combining colonial architecture with traditional Moorish arches, and its interior features a fantastic crystal chandelier and calligraphy panels. Built by the Indian Muslims primarily the head of the Indian Muslim community, Kapten Caudeer names the mosque after himself and Keling which was the origin of his birthplace.
Yap Temple which is the clan temple of the Lum Yeong Tong Yap Kongsi, located next to it. The clan temple is located at the corner of Armenian Street and Cannon Street, in the core zone of the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The street begins from the St.George Church run by Anglicans were built by British East India Company in 1819 and it’s known to be the oldest building in Penang. Built with a Greek architecture, the interior consist of a cool pastel blue with marble floors and outside the main building on the church grounds is a memorial to Sir Francis Light in the form of a Greek temple.
The Khoo Kongsi is a large Chinese clanhouse with elaborate and highly ornamented architecture, a mark of the dominant presence of the Chinese in Penang, Malaysia. The famous Khoo Kongsi is the grandest clan temple in the country. It is also one of the city's major historic attractions.
Then make a visit to The Top at Komtar Penang and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Penang from an open platform of the city's tallest building.
