The Tikal archaeological site has about 5,000 pre-Hispanic buildings in an area of approximately 16 km2, of which only 15% is restored and enabled for exploration. The area of Tikal covers approximately 576 km2, most of which have not yet been cleared, mapped or excavated.

Stop 3

Being in the Grand Plaza you will have right in front of you the Temple of the Great Jaguar, also known as Temple I, icon of all Guatemala, has 45 meters high, below said temple was found the richest burial in all Guatemala, a tomb with 16 pounds of Jade, sea shells as an offering, carved human bones, etc.

At the other end is Temple Number II or Temple of Masks, has a wooden staircase, to have that unique view of the square, has 38 meters high.

To the north, there are 16 religious or ceremonial temples that are allowed to explore, in our recommendation is to go see a giant mask of Chaac, God of rain very well preserved and the best is original.

To the South Direction, are several elongated buildings believed to have been the residential area for the royals, houses entirely made of limestone walls, ceilings, beds.
Buildings of 1 floor up to 5 floors, with amazing views.

The last massive structure built in Tikal for 810 AD, it has two quarters on top, fully aligned with temple I for equinoxes.

Tikal’s largest structure at 70 meters high, which has served as many settings for filming with the most outstanding being the Star Wars film.

It can be accessed with a wooden staircase in the form of a zig zag, once being above you will be able to observe the whole city of Tikal, surrounded by vegetation.
