Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

A much-loved part of the city with stunning views, the dormant volcano is a charming gem overlooking the town of Curepipe and dominates the view over the island. This huge volcanic crater reveals the existence of the paradise island that was formed millions of years ago and is approximately 85 meters in depth and 300 meters wide.

2

This shop could be chosen as one of the most unusual places, giving visitors a real island feel. Watch how skilled local artisans perfect and craft scale models of historical ships, galleons and boats that were used to transport goods and produce to and from the island. Fitting one in your suitcase to take back home may prove difficult but the shop can make arrangements for your purchase to be shipped to you.

3

Visit the town of Curepipe where you will discover a myriad of small boutiques in a tranquil atmosphere, with no pushy sellers, offering a wide range of goods from cashmere pashminas and garments to jewellery and souvenirs.
Most of the shops have been operated for generations and provide the best quality of products exported from Europe and India that have been made using traditional skills and techniques. Indulge your loved one’s fantasies with fashionable times. Don’t forget to bring your passport, as duty-free shopping is widely available.

4

Built in the year 1885, Mare aux Vacoas has the honour of being the largest reservoir on the island with a capacity of almost 26 million cubic meters. he region also takes pride in its constant breeze of freshness as its surrounded by a dense rain-forest of several tropical trees such as eucalyptus, pine and casuarinas.

5

You will not want to miss a visit to the sacred lake of Grand Bassin while you are in Mauritius. Famed as the largest Hindu temple on the island, this place is more peaceful and tranquil than it first seems. Several devotees are found praying to Hindu deities, offering fruits and light-scent incense, creating a spiritual atmosphere in the calm and tranquil surrounding.

Due to the abundance of fruits on sight during the prayers, you can spot the greedy monkeys sometimes sneaking out from the trees to take advantage of the successful situation. Our guide will take you to the Hanuman Statue located on top of the hill. It requires a fairly long climb but offers a rewarding view overlooking the sacred lake with stunning views of the island. Visitors will also be able to see the incredible 108-foot statue of Lord Shiva and Lord Durga, which is one of the biggest of its kind ever constructed in the world.

6

The peaceful surrounding of Alexandra Falls offers a feel of the island’s past as it’s sheltered with a rich and untouched rainforest with around 200 species of trees, species, shrubs, plants and wildlife. Unwind with your loved ones as you listen to the falls from a distance comforted by melodious sounds.

7

Located on one of the highest parts of the National Park, is a viewpoint which is sure to take your breath away as you gaze towards the valley rich with bright green vegetation along with the occasional majestic Paille En Queue, which happens to be the national bird of Mauritius, gliding merrily about in its home.

8

The rhumerie of Chamarel has been making its best-selling rum products at its own distillery since 2008. They grow their own sugarcane, which are subsequently harvested by hand and carefully selected for the production of the Chamarel white and old rums.

Freshly harvested sugarcane is transferred within four hours to the distillery to preserve its freshness and aromas.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe the distilling process before they taste some of the finest rum, some of which is carefully purified by a special process using the cognac method, which makes it a unique product full of aromas.

9
Stop 9

Flowing in the Black River Gorges and originating from the river of St. Denis, the Chamarel Waterfall is the highest one on the island falling from a height of about 83m. You will love the unforgettable visit to the Chamarel Waterfall with its breathtaking location surrounded by lush landscape.

10
Stop 10

Renowned as being the most popular tourist attraction of the whole island, the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel is an essential on the list of anyone visiting Mauritius.

Origination of volcanic basalt rocks, the rain and sun transformed them into the clay minerals they are today. Due to weather conditions, the rain washed away any water soluble substance leaving only compounds which give the soil its unique colour. The different quantity of these coloured compounds is what results in the soils to have distinctly different colours. What is even more impressive is if you mix the 7 earths together, they will end up separating and re-joining their unique colour.

11

The Chamarel Viewpoint is a family friendly spot for you to get an amazing panoramic view of the whole chamarel village laid beneath your eyes. We recommend you to bring along a pair of sunglasses and a camera, in order to capture the splendid view of the green hilly region as well as an aerial view of Ile Aux Benitiers.
