About this experience

We have a light lunch and drinks at Goanikontes Oasis. This makes the tour more expensive but one gets a fuller more relaxed experience.
The Welwitschia Plants only grow in a small belt in this area, the Welwitschia Plains, and plants up to 1500 years old are seen, they are unique in that they only have two leaves coming out of the stem
The Moonlandscape is about 500 million years old and is the only place on earth to experience the feeling of being on another Planet..
Goanikontes is the first fresh water Oasis in the desert and has therefore attracted human life and development here. History rich full of memories of hard days gone by
the quietness of the desert gravel plains have their own mystique...

We travel to Goanikontes , an Oasis in the Swakopmund River, which is the first water well in the Swakop River and has a rich history. Plantations from yesteryear include Date palms and Olive trees. Nowadays it has a fine restaurant.

We travel to the amazing Moonlandscape, we pass lichen fields and , Dolomite rocks and Lava Dykes on the desert gravel plains, look at various desert plants and how they survive, no rainfall only fog... the more we learn the more we want to know onto the world. The Moonlandscape. 400-500 million years old built on lava and dolomite rock, having endured 2 ice ages and being part of the old Gondwanaland... you feel as if you are on another planet

The tour takes us to the the 1500 year Old Welwitschia Mirabilis plant, across the gravel plains we drive viewing the desert lichen fields and other fauna onto the amazing Welwitschia plants. We learn how they survive, why they are only found in this area, how the male plants differ from the female and how they get pollinated... how they evolved and adapted,
its a must visit. Minimum 2 pax
