What you'll see

Start the day with hotel pick up 9am and travel on one of the most scenic drives in New Zealand to Glenorchy at the western end of Lake Wakatipu. Not far from there, venture onto Private Property, a 20,000 acre (8,093 hectares) sheep and beef farm where you gain access up 4WD trails into the heart of Middle Earth from

Lord of the Rings.

Your first stop there is in the "front row" overlooking Isengard from

Lord of the Rings. Take a short walk into a native beach forest, a tranquil moment in this mountain setting. This is the ultimate photography location elevated above the Dart River with views over Mt. Aspiring National Park to snow-capped mountains beyond.

At lunchtime, have a picnic lunch on the mountain or a cafe lunch at Kinloch nestled by the lake shore a beautiful peaceful setting. The afternoon is spent further exploring a trail above Diamond Lake, there is the opportunity for some walking and an opportunity to see farm activities should they be available on the day. A visit to the sheep shearing woolshed is a must where once a year 5,000 sheep are shorn, numerous farm animals are sprinkled across this amazing home for them called the Paradise Valley.

Venturing further up the valley beyond Diamond Lake, see the majestic Arcadia Homestead and further movie locations from the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies before returning via Glenorchy to Queenstown. Refreshments are included, this tour is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
