Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

We will see one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau bridges in Ljubljana and explain why a dragon is the symbol of the city. A hint: it has also to do with the story of Jason and the Argonauts.

2
Stop 2

We will ride through a part of the Old Town of Ljubljana, along colorful old houses, narrow streets, cafes and restaurants. We will stop to see Ljubljana Farmers` Market, the cathedral, bridges, town hall etc.

3
Stop 3

We will see one of the oldest bridges of Ljubljana, later redesigned by the famous Slovenian architect Joze Plecnik. We will also see some other of his amazing works. Here we will also stop to admire view of the old town and to talk about Ljubljanica river. We will reveal why it is also called a river of seven names.

4
Stop 4

We will stop at one of the most important buildings of the old town - the Town Hall, where mayors of Ljubljana have been appointed for the past 500 years.

5

We will stop at very possibly the only monument dedicated to Napoleon outside France. We will talk about Napoleonic wars and why this period was so important for Slovenes.

6

We will see the farmers` market of Ljubljana, where farmers from all around Ljubljana and Slovenia bring their produce to sell to citizens and tourists alike. Vegetables, fruits, bread, cheeses, meat, handcraft, souvenirs. Part of the market got designed by Joze Plecnik himself.

7

We will ride through a part of town that seems like a village! It is where food for the city was produced in the past. An old house after an old house with gardens left and right.

8

We will ride to a place where Ljubljanica river splits and creates a beautiful and tranquil combination of nature and settlements. Here we will talk about Ljubljanica river and about its importance for the city. We may also encompas some river animals!

9

Ljubljana is an old Roman town and some Roman remains can still be seen today. We will pass old Roman walls and talk about times of Emona, as Roman Ljubljana was once called.

10
Stop 10

This building is a must-see. It is the biggest homework of the famous architect Plecnik and is full of symbolism.

11
Stop 11

We will stop at the biggest square of the Old Town, called Congress Square. It got its name after the congress of Holly Alience that was held in Ljubljana in 1821 as a consequence of Napoleonic wars. We will have a beautiful view of Ljubljana Castle and some other prominent buildings like Ursuline Church, University Building and Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra Association building. Star Park is right next to the square.

12

Stopping on Republic Square will give you a glimpse of brutalist architecture that was predominant right after the World War Two. Two tall towers encompas the square on one side, parliament building on the opposite and a brutalist department store on the third. There is also a chance to talk about times of Yugoslavia that Slovenia was part of here.

13
Stop 13

Preseren Square is the main square of Ljubljana, named by our famous poet France Preseren. It was his unrequited love for Julia that made him write some of the most beautiful poems of Slovenina literature. Here Triple Bridge is at hand and Art Nouveau architecture alike.

14
Stop 14

Metelkova Autonomous Zone is different to other parts of town. It consists of military baracks that got abandoned in 1991 when Yugoslavian army withdrew. These baracks got squated by artists, intelectuals, students soon after that and today Metelkova is an artistic quarter with galleries, clubs, bars, attelies for artists. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights the place changes into a party venue with lots of alternative music.
