Maharaj Jai singh took counsel from several books on architecture and a brahmin scholar Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. It took four years to construct the city. The king sent scholars across the world to collect the information. The set of features and attributes of its palaces, roads, and squares were headway for its time. The city palace is an union of Mughal, Rajputanas, and European architecture. The palace has a patterns of lines that cross each other to form square. The palace has Govind temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, Sabha Niwas, Sarvato bhadra, Chandra Mahal and Mubark Mahal. The royal family still resides here. Later, we will visit Hawa Mahal.
Hawa Mahal is made up of red and pink sandstone in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. It has 953 windows, known as jharokhas. The jharokhas are latticed windows so that ladies could watch the royal proceedings. It was constructed to let cool air pass through the Mahal in the summers.
