Before visiting the largest, most expensive and most magnificent castle of the Bavarian "fairytale king" Ludwig II., you can look forward to a 15-minute fun boat trip over Bavaria's largest lake ***** Prices (2025) for ferryboat round-trip: Adults 13.00 € / Children 6-15 years € 6.50) ***** Here in Prien, the charming town with 10,000 inhabitants on the western shore of Lake Chiemsee, there is not only the largest harbour of the lake, but also the boat in which the king took over the island. In the summer months, the oldest steam tram in the world runs between the train station and the port!

3
Stop 3

Herrenchiemsee Palace is an almost exact replica of Versailles, the residence of the French king Louis XIV. who was very venerated by Ludwig. During the 35-minute guided tour through the interiors, with all the lavish splendour, you will hardly be able to imagine that the king lived here on only 10 days - and on top of that completely alone! ***** Prices (2025) Herrenchiemsee palace: Adults € 11.00 / Children under 18 years are free ***** It takes 20 minutes to walk from the pier to the palace, or enjoy optional a horse-drawn carriage ride. Your ticket also includes admission to the most interesting Ludwig II Museum and the "Old Palace", where you can admire, among other things, magnificent baroque rooms of the former monastery. Visit also the kitchen, where the dishes were prepared for the king.

4

After less than an hours drive we'll reach the charming Spa Town Bad Tölz, at Isar river. Once it provided Munich with lumber and beer. Look forward to the further 45-minutes journey in our luxurious minivan until we reach the secluded valley Graswangtal, in the middle of the Bavarian Alps where Ludwig's second fairytale castle is hidden!

5
Stop 5

45 minutes later we reach Linderhof palace, King Ludwig's smallest but most intimate castle located in a lonely Alpine valley with breathtaking french baroque design and famous Bavarian trick paintings. (Skip-the-line entrance fee 2025: 10.00 € per adult, Children under 18 years are free!)

In the castle park itself, other attractions can be visited, such as the Venus Grotto, which reopened in April 2025 after years of renovation work (€ 3.00 per adult extra, only cash payment possible; the Venus Grotto can only be reached on a very steep path of about 0.3 miles and is closed in winter)

6

Shortly after visiting Linderhof we reach Oberammergau, where your guide can give you a 15 min. tour, especially for explaining the famous wallpaintings and the Passion play theatre. Little shops offer local souvenirs. The regional speciality are wood carvings.

7

The church of the Ettal Monastery, consecrated in 1370, is a 12-wall domed mediaval hall. The late Baroque interior will impress you deeply!
In the monastery shop you can buy the excellent home-brewed Ettal monastery beer or liqueur.

8

Between the sights and during the trips to and from your hotel, you will enjoy the journey in our luxurious minivans with panoramic glass roof, full leather upholstery, all conceivable safety precautions and exciting information from your friendly and professional tour guide.
