About this experience

Walk around the city in a company of an Art Historian guide and explore the diverse array of influences and styles that formed the present day Zagreb.

This tour will give you a general introduction to the main periods and styles of Zagreb architecture. Starting from the medieval times best represented in church architecture, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, historicist interventions to 20th century structures in the historical core of the city.

Besides topography and architectural elements you will meet important persons of Zagreb through public sculptures and learn about their authors. Your guide will also draw attention to some of the best museums in Zagreb as you pass by and give insight into ongoing exhibitions.

Kamenita Vrata or Stone Gate is the eastern gate to medieval town and Zagreb's most important shrine.

St Mark's Square constitutes the heart of the Upper Town, having formerly served as the main market square of the settlement of Gradec. In the center of square is located St. Mark's Church. The square also sports important governmental buildings: Banski dvori, Croatian Parliament and Constitutional Court of Croatia.

Saint Mark's Church uniquely colorful tiled roof makes it a Zagreb icon. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city dating from the 13th century.

Croatian History Museum is located in one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces of Zagreb built in 1764, with wrought-iron railings at the windows and balcony and a lovely carriage entrance.

Klovicevi Dvori gallery is located in a former Jesuit monastery, in the only Renaissance palace of Zagreb Upper Town.

Baroque church of St. Catherine was built in 1632 following model of the Il Gesù in Rome The austere façade hides a lavish interior, notably the single nave containing six lateral chapels which produce an ethereal, almost joyful light and is one of Croatia's most beautiful Baroque ensembles.
