Prior to becoming a Tour Guide 13 years ago I was an architect for a long period of time. Consequently, I have developed a deep interest in present and past structures, peceiving them to be historical documents recorded in stone. I view archaeological remains anthropomorphically and see them as unclothed buildings with some missing limbs. Buildings are a reflection of the pervailing society and are a response to the needs and culture of that society. In addition, buildings utilize the technological innovations of the period & are influenced by the climatic, geographical & geological conditions of their enviroment. If I may quote William Morris (1834-1896), and English architect belonging to the Arts & Crafts movement who wrote the following, " Architecture is the moulding & altering to human needs of the very face of the earth itself ".
