About this experience

Join our wonderful day tour and see waterfalls, a black sand beach, and of course real flowing lava.
The Lava Show in Vík is a fun and educational exhibit showcasing real lava produced by superheating tephra, formed by real volcanic eruptions past. Feel the heat, as we explain the volcanic forces that have shaped Iceland.

Following the Lava Show, enjoy some free time exploring Vík´s. See the local church which overlooks the town and offers breathtaking panoramic vistas. See the black sand beach and the nearby Reynisdrangar sea stacks just off shore.

We see Skógafoss first from distance but as we approach we are met with its powerful roar, while water spray lingers in the air all around. See the falls from ground level or take up the challenge to climb the immense stairway all the way to the top.

Last but not least is Seljalandsfoss, perhaps Iceland´s most beloved waterfalls. Gentle when compared to Skógafoss, try the walking path behind the falls and see it from a new perspective.

Detailed itinerary

1

South Iceland is renowned for its stunning landscapes and natural wonders. Highlights include the majestic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, both offering breathtaking views and unique experiences, such as walking behind the cascading water of Seljalandsfoss. The region provides spectacular views of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, known for its 2010 eruption.

2
Stop 2

We leave Vík and journey back west towards the capital, but not before two more essential South Coast hot-spots. First up is Skógafoss waterfall, a powerful natural wonder that leaves visitors awe-inspired. Cascading from a height of 60 meters and spanning a width of 25 meters, the powerful falls generate a constant mist, creating vibrant rainbows on sunny days. Framed by lush greenery and surrounded by dramatic cliffs, Skógafoss offers a breathtaking backdrop for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. Accessible by a scenic staircase, the viewing platform at the top provides a stunning panorama of the waterfall and the surrounding landscapes, making Skógafoss a must-see destination for those exploring Iceland's spectacular scenery.

3

Vík is one of Iceland´s most picturesque villages. It sits on the wild southern coastline, and is surrounded by magnificent scenery, including black sand beaches and basalt sea stacks.
Overlooking the village sits Vikurkikja church, which boasts a studenous view.

4

Our first stop of the day is the acclaimed Lava Show exhibition in Vík. The Lava Show uses basaltic tephra or black sand that was formed by real historic volcanic eruption on Iceland´s south coast. Super-heating this tephra in a purpose-built furnace returns it to its molten lava state.
See real flowing lava in a safe and fun show where our passionate experts will deplain and demonstate the behaviour of lava.

5
Stop 5

Seljalandsfoss waterfall is one of Iceland´s enduring icons. Famed for its wonderous walking trail that allows visitors to walk behind the falls, Seljalandsfoss is an essential stop on any south coast tour.

After our 45 minute stop here, we continue on our way back to the city.
