Merkato, it’s the largest shopping area in Addis and some say the largest market in Africa. Stalls, shops, kiosks, malls, and street vendors sell food, drink, spices, incense, clothing, jewelry, music, movies, appliances, handicrafts, chat, and more. Visit the recycling market where someone’s garbage is transformed into a new and different product ready for its new life.

You will explore the famous Mercato with me i can lead you through the hustle and bustle of this unique marketplace, explaining what is for sale and what it is used for.

It was named after St. George, after the Tabot (Ark) of the church was carried to the Battle of Adwa against the Italians during which the Ethiopians secured victory.
