Mererani Tanzanite Mines
Located in the Merelani Hills in the Manyara Region of northern Tanzania, 70 km (43 mi) south of Arusha, the Mererani Tanzanite Mines are where the blue Tanzanite was first discovered in 1968, and are still mined both by local and large mine operators today

After an early pick up in Arusha, you will travel about 60 kilometers to the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, just south of the Kilimanjaro international airport all the way to the Mererani area. This is the prime location where the Tanzanite mineral was discovered and the only place where you can find in the whole wide world. This precious stone is found about 1000 meters deep underground, on a volcanic igneous rock. You will descend down the mine to explore how the mining process takes place, as you explore the machinery and spend time with the miners on site. This is a full day activity with departures from Arusha town.
