Sigiriya, situated in the heart of Sri Lanka, is a mesmerizing UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its ancient rock fortress. Rising majestically from the surrounding plains, this colossal rock formation stands as a testament to ancient engineering and architectural prowess. Crowned by the remnants of a royal palace, Sigiriya offers visitors a glimpse into the island's rich history and cultural heritage. Its sheer vertical walls, adorned with vibrant frescoes depicting celestial maidens, captivate the imagination. As visitors ascend the steep staircase carved into the rock, they are rewarded with panoramic vistas of lush greenery and distant mountains, making Sigiriya an unforgettable destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

The trek begins with an awesome walk along a bund of a “Wewa” or man-made reservoir. Thereafter you will enjoy a bullock cart ride while enjoying sightseeing of the rural village life. Your next phase of adventure will be a “catamaran safari” (double-paired canoe joined together with seating facility) at the scenic lake.

Finally, enjoy traditional lunch at a local house prepared by the village women (at your own cost). This is arranged on a typical & traditional buffet style (clay pots – buffet) served on a lotus leaf and a cane thatched flat holder. You will also have the opportunity to witness the traditional meal preparation methods by the local women and to partake on the preparation of a curry. At the end, visitors will be having a tuk-tuk (three wheeler) tour back to the starting point. The total tour will be 8km.

Make the 45 minute journey to the historically significant Habarana Lake to do Birdwatching during your stay in Sigiriya and greet the diverse avian life present in the area as you explore in search of rare birds. Catch glimpses of bright plumage amongst the greenery and try to identify them. Also get a chance to see some of the other wildlife.
