Starting at the Brewing Heritage Trail Sign at Findlay Market, this brewing history and architecture tour walks the western portion of the Brewery District, marveling at the many remaining 19th and early 20th century structures and sharing stories of those who built or doomed these brewing empires during beer’s industrial revolution.
Tours include a visit into the subterranean lager cellars of the historic (non-operating) Jackson Brewery, as well as outdoor visitation to the Sohn/Mohawk Brewery, several Christian Moerlein sites, and the location of the Bellevue Incline. The Jackson Brewery cellars were excavated from the hillside under the brewery, so we enter from street level and there are no stairs to climb going in or out, making these cellars very accessible and the total walking distance of this tour is less than a mile.
At the tour conclusion, we stop in at a neighborhood taproom for a pint of local beer, included with each ticket!
Walk along the Brewing Heritage Trail past historic breweries, including a visit into one of the pre-Prohibition breweries' underground lagering cellars.
This tour begins from Findlay Market at the Brewing Heritage Trail "Hop On" Sign, located on the east side of the market, where West Elder Street meets Race Street. 101 West Elder Street is the nearest physical address using Google Maps, however, the meeting point is just north of this location.
This tour begins from Findlay Market at the Brewing Heritage Trail "Hop On" Sign (101 West Elder St. is the nearest address if using Google Maps), located just a few feet away from the east side market doors, where West Elder Street meets Race Street. Your tour guide will be at the trail sign (look for our crown logo on the tall sign) approximately 15 minutes before the tour is scheduled to begin, in order to check in guests and make sure everyone has filled out their liability waivers. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes before the tour start time and allow for traffic and parking, as the guide will not be able to wait for late arrivals.
Parking is usually available at the Findlay Garage (1810 Logan St.) located on the west side of the market. There are smaller surface parking lots on the north and south sides of Findlay Market, but these typically fill up quickly and are not usually available on the weekends.
