The temple attracts thousands of tourists because of its architecture, location and historical value. The name of the church is translated from Georgian as “the cross” and has its own history wich we will tell you there.
Next, we continue to the ancient capital of Georgia — Mtskheta, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mtskheta has been inhabited for more than 2,600 years and once served as the capital of the early Georgian Kingdom of Iberia.
From the parking area, we will walk to the historical center of Mtskheta, passing through its charming narrow streets filled with souvenir shops, wine tastings, and traditional Georgian sweets. The highlight of our visit will be the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the burial site of Christ’s Robe and one of the most sacred and revered places in Georgia.
Our next stop is the city of Gori, the hometown of Joseph Stalin, the most famous Georgian leader of the Soviet Union. Here, you will visit the Stalin House-Museum and learn about his life. Guests will see his original house where he was born, his office, personal items like his pipe, cigars, and telephone, his railway carriage, and much more.
Next stop is Uplistsikhe – “The Fortress of God.” It is one of the oldest places in the world, an ancient 3,000-year-old cave city carved into the rock. Long ago, it was an important center for Georgia’s culture, religion, and politics.
Uplistsikhe is special because it still keeps buildings and caves from different times in history. Today, about 150 caves remain. During our tour, we will see some of the most interesting ones — the tunnel, the Sun Temple, the Royal Hall of Queen Tamar, the winery, the 6th-century church, the old library, and even an ancient pharmacy carved in stone.
