About this experience

For just two weeks in spring we modify our “Hidden Gems” to capture the Easter Spirit with its markets, special foods and rituals.
Traditional Easter decorations and artfully decorated eggs, culinary treats and a program of music await you at Vienna's Easter markets. There’re all sorts of entertainment for young visitors to the markets.
The Am Hof Easter Market is also fully dedicated to Easter customs with skillfully decorated eggs and flower arrangements and offers pretty handicrafts as well as hearty food.
Every year, at the Old Viennese Easter market on Freyung, a pretty old square in the Old City, the tower of eggs is built with around 40,000 painted Easter eggs. There are also numerous Easter specialties ranging from the Osterpinze Easter bread to the roast Easter lamb, handicrafts, floristry and for the very little ones a creative Easter workshop and a puppet theater.

Stop 1 Pass by

One of Vienna’s most intimate squares is ducked away just steps form busy Stephansplatz and the Cathedral.

Understand some of the outside details and find time for a look inside.

The Plague Column is one of the most ambitious and innovative sculptural Baroque ensembles anywhere in Europe.

Stop 4

The first domed structure in baroque Vienna. Due to the confinement of available space, it was built in a very compact form and the interior makes an overwhelming impression on the visitor with its surprisingly rich interior filled with golden stucco. In 1970 it was transferred to the priests of the Opus Dei.

Stop 5

Embedded in one of the city’s most atmospheric neighborhood this square tells the story of Jewish Christioan interaction over a span of seven hundred years.

The largest of the Inner City has its tradition as a market place and hosts one of the Easter Markets. Se the iconic “Speck Standl”.

Austria’s center of power for more than 700 years it features courtyards and architecture of different periods, museums, the Spanish Riding School, the Treasury and the infamous “Hitler Balcony”.

Passing Café Central find out where Trotsky and Stalin did not become friends – and the stylish Ferstel Passage we reach Freyung, with its “Old Vienna Easter-Market” with its supposedly up to 40.000 painted eggs.
