About this experience

This half-day walking-tour presents two of Vienna’s most outstanding periods, Baroque and Art Nouveau.

We skip-the-line to explore the Upper Belvederes refined interior. The Austria Gallery’s highlight is the Kiss by Gustav Klimt – presented among ten other Klimts and works of his contemporaries like Schiele and Kokoschka.

Baroque gardens always hide little surprises – lets decipher them.

The open spaces of Schwarzenbergplatz and Karlsplatz offer unique vistas spanning periods from the seventeen-hundreds to WWII.

An art nouveau signature building itself the Secession holds another Kiss at the end of Klimt’s “illustration” of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.

At the end, Naschmarkt invites you to explore Vienna’s culinary diversity or just relax with an al fresco lunch or afternoon snack.

Stop 1

Outstanding wrought-iron gates open into the Belvedere gardens.

We skip the line to visit Vienna’s best baroque garden palace and see Klimt’s Kiss – embedded in the Austrian Gallery.

On our way down, we decipher the three-leveled gardens and the play with visual tricks before we enter the Lower Belvedere.

The garden room and the honor court make us understand what Prince Eugene brought to Vienna from Versailles – on a miniature scale though.

Schwarzenbergplatz is dominated by the Soviet Memorial and surrounded by a mix of buildings illustrating Vienna’s boom period at the end of the 1800 hundreds.

Stop 5 Pass by

Built to impress from a distance, this church sets the stage for Austria’s most glorious epoch in the 1700 hundreds. Baroque at it’s best.

Stop 6 Pass by

Functional though elegant – the Otto Wagner metro-station at Karlsplatz represents another of Vienna’s moments of glory, the time around 1900, Art Nouveau!

Stop 7 Pass by

The Wiener Musikverein (Viennese Music Association) is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra. The "Great/Golden Hall" (Großer Saal), due to its highly regarded acoustics, is considered one of the finest concert halls in the world.

Stop 8

The Secession Building is as an architectural manifesto for Art Nouveau. Built by a group of rebel artists seceding from the long-established fine art institution.

Klimt painted the Beethoven Frieze for an exhibition in celebration of the composer. Meant for the exhibition only, the frieze was painted directly on the walls with light materials. It culminates in "a kiss to the world".

Stop 9 Pass by

The Naschmarkt in its current, transitional stage dates to 1915 and is a mixture of a market and an international food experience. Perfect for a “al fresco” lunch or a tasty late afternoon snack.
