The Fort offers a stunning view of Kingstown and the Grenadines Islands because it is perched 600 feet above sea level on a ridge. In the Fort's former commanders' quarters, there are intriguing paintings by Lindsay Prescott depicting the history of the local Black Caribs. Today, the Fort is a historical site.
It's interesting to note that, unlike most forts in the Caribbean, this one wasn't built to defend the island against the attacks of the local inland Caribs and not agains a naval invasion.
The Owia Salt Pond is a two-hour journey along St. Vincent's picturesque eastern coast from the Carib settlement of Owia on the northeastern coast. The Rabacca Dry River, which was formed by the ash flow from the La Soufrière Volcano eruption in 1902, the Black Point Tunnel, which the British dug using slave labor in 1815, and some of the best black sand beaches in the world can all be seen along the route.
