Al Shindagha Museum
The iconic Dubai Creek area is the home to our museum, where visitors can experience the vibrant history of Dubai. It was developed as part of an initiative to transform the creek into a regional culture and traditional centre.
Shindagha Museum tells the universal tale of human innovation, resilience, and the desire for progress which shaped the Dubai of nowadays. We invite our visitors to explore the heritage submerging them into true Emirati culture and its origins. The museum also highlights Dubai’s shared heritage with the region and wider world.
"We may not live for hundreds of years, but the products of our creativity can leave a legacy long after we are gone."
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Discover the first of a series of museums that are transforming the historical district of Dubai into a rich cultural zone. Located in the historic Shindagha district of Dubai, it offers the perfect reason to spend a day in old Dubai. Combine it with a traditional abra ride across the creek, or a visit to the souks.
The findings on display here were found at an archaeological site on the edge of the Rub Al-Khali desert, discovered by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum while flying his helicopter. Ever since, archaeologists and historians have been unearthing thousands of iron tools, stoneware, bronze pots, precious beads, gold jewellery and fossils – now on display at the museum.
Translating to “The Way of Iron”, the Saruq Al-Hadid museum showcases the era of metalworking – with artefacts preserved in mint condition. Visitors can even carry out their own dig in a simulated archaeological excavation and kids can follow the gallery trails to explore history.
This private museum in the Shindagha Historic District provides a fascinating glimpse of Dubai's historic role as a trading link between East and West. On display are hundreds of artefacts from the Ubaids, Greeks, Romans, Babylonians and other civilisations that passed through the region.
Highlights include a 7500-year-old bull-shaped vase and a 16th-century Kaaba curtain, as well as a 1st edition of the 1590 book that first mentions 'Dubai'. Other galleries display swords, daggers and other historical weaponry used across the region.
Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House is a historic building and former residential quarters of Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, former ruler of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The building is located along the Dubai Creek in the locality of Al Shindagha area.
Located in the ‘Rekab House’ (camel house), the museum was originally used as a camel stable for the sheikhs. When the building was restored, its architectural design was conserved to become a camel museum. This unique house explains the history and prominence of camels, and illustrates breeds such as the Saleel, Faseel, Naqah and Hewar used by the Bedouin people as ships of the desert. O
