Spinalonga, the small islet near Elounda, is marked with a turbulent history of fierce battles and much human suffering. At the beginning of the 20th century on the islet, the lepers of whole Greece were quarantined until 1957.

Kritsa picturesque village is among the oldest on Crete, built on the feet of Mt. Kastellos semicircularly built, with a marvelous view to vast olive groves and the Mirabello bay. Here old customs and traditions are kept alive, still renowned as weaving art center.
