Stop 2

Your trip will continue with a visit to Lake Kournas, a peaceful and picturesque freshwater oasis that should not be missed. Located near the town of Georgioupoli, this lake is the only natural freshwater lake in Crete, making it a unique and special destination. According to the myth and the folk narrations, the nymph of the water was once the daughter of a villager who sat down with her father on the spot where the lake is today. Her father, bewitched by her beauty, was tempted and approached her with wicked intentions. The girl, terrified, cried out “Sink, Lake, sink, and I a spirit in the lake!” The spirits of the lake heard her cry, took pity on her, and made her wish come true. The ground shook and sank with a terrible noise, leaving a lake where the valley had been, and the unfortunate maiden took refuge in its dark waters.

3

Reaching the village of Argiroupoli is one of the most interesting historic areas of Crete as it has things to see from various periods of Cretan history. The village was built on the site of Ancient Lappa, which is one of the oldest places in Crete. Besides the architecture and the history, Argyroupoli is full of wonderful nature. Abundant springs feed fountains and wells and waterfalls and nourish many mighty plain trees. There is a great sense of freshness in the air and the soothing sound of flowing water.

4

Last but not least comes Agreco Farms where you will have a chance to enjoy the amazing Cretan cuisine, feed several wild animals, and be a farmer yourself as they have several activities.
