Stop 1

Zeus sent two eagles in order to discover the center of the world. The two eagles met here, in Delphi, the Panhellenic sanctuary, the most important oracle and the religious and spiritual center of ancient Greece.

Delphi is located at the foot of mount Parnassus and is a world heritage of Unesco. The sanctuary was at its peak during the 8 th century BC.

The archaeological site of Dephi includes the Tholos of the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia, the Temple of Apollo inside of which was the adyton, a separate room where Pythia seated on a tripod uttered the oracles, the ancient theatre which built in 400 BC of white stone from Parnassus and has a capacity of 5000 seats, the ancient stadium, the Treasury of Athenians which was erected after their victory in Marathon in 490BC, the Stoa of the Athenians, the Sacred Way, the Castalian fountain, the Treasury of the Siphnians and many others.

The archaeological museum of Delphi worths a visit to admire masterpieces of the classical greek art such as the Sphinx of Naxos, the Charioteer, the statue of Antinous and more.
