Stop 2

Elmina Castle was the first – and for many centuries – the largest, European building constructed in tropical Africa. Yet its grandeur, as well as its picturesque surroundings with blue skies, sandy beaches, and tropical palms, disguise a very dark history – Elmina Castle was the last place that thousands of African slaves would ever see of their homeland before being shipped to be enslaved in various parts of the world.

This tour is emotional and expertly coordinated by experienced tour guides who will answer all your questions and give insight into the history of the transatlantic slave trade.

Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans. This was the place of the “last bath” before slaves were taken to the castles to be shipped off.
