Through marriage he is paying his debt to his forefathers, by procreating children and ensuring continuation of his family’s lineage.

The Hindu marriage is a spiritual union between two people in the presence of Agni (the God of Fire), the primary witness to the ceremony. The ceremony takes place in the Mandap (wedding altar) which represents the Universe.
