Located by the mouth of the Arade river, Rocha Beach extends over a huge area of sand some 3 kilometres long irregularly broken up by odd rock formations that the sea has been carving out throughout tens of thousands of years.

Regularly the chosen location for Algarve tourism publicity photographs and highly publicised in international campaigns, this is now one of the most popular resorts in southern Portugal. This is further encouraged by the range of nightlife that even boasts its own Casino.

Bathed by a calm and warm sea that provides for risk-free swimming, Rocha Beach is also equipped with the facilities for a number of different sports including basketball, football, volleyball and aerobics.

Located between Praia do Vau and Prainha, Ponta de João D'Arens is a true treasure in terms of biodiversity and landscape.

This corner of the coast of Portimão is made up of limestone rocks that are millions of years old, which were sculpted by rain and sea water and by the wind, gaining unique shapes.

From the clear waters, small rocks emerge, which embellish the landscape and serve as a refuge for birds.

With its white houses reaching down to the banks of the Arade river, Ferragudo is a picturesque fishing village located opposite Portimão with which it once shared responsibility for defending this stretch of coastline. This was secured by fortresses on either side that could establish a crossfire to defend these settlements from any enemy naval attack.

Next to Ferragudo, the large expanse of sand does justice to its name, Praia Grande (Big Beach) and features excellent conditions for a range of nautical sports including schools for learning how to surf and windsurf.
