Day 1Church of the Virgin Mary in Faggala, Virgin Mary churche in Maadi and Monastery of Simon the Tanner in the Mokattam
A guide will take you from your hotel in Cairo to start your Coptic tour , you will start your tour by visiting the Church of the Virgin Mary in Faggala
It is the first church built in Cairo in the modern era after the Church of St. Mark built in 1800 AD
In one of the twisted lanes of Faggala, there is one of the most beautiful ancient Coptic churches. It is the Church of the Blessed Virgin, which is located in the Mikhail Alley
The church was inaugurated in 1886. The icons of this church are painted by an Italian artist, mostly from the 19th century
The next stop will be in Virgin Mary churche in Maadi
According to the tradition, the Holy Family embarked for Upper Egypt here in order to escape from the pursuing soldiers of Herod. The local priest believes that the Church of the Virgin Mary in Maadi is situated on the place of an ancient synagogue used during a time when some Jews had fled to Egypt for refuge
As at other holy sites, the church of Maadi also boasts important miracles. On Friday of March 12, 1976, a deacon found a Holy Bible floating on the water. It was of course salvaged immediately and to people’s surprise, the Bible was open to the Chapter 19 of Isaiah, which reads
” Blessed be Egypt my people ”
The Bible now is on display in a reliquary of the church
Take a short break for lunch at a local restaurant
Your final stop will be in the Monastery of Simon the Tanner
saint associated with the story of the moving the Mokattam Mountain in Cairo, Egypt, during the rule of the Muslim Fatimid Caliph al-Muizz Lideenillah
The monastery is carved in the rocks of the mountain and contains all the discoveries found in the tomb of Simon. It also contains beautiful paintings carved in the rock
Many tourists visit the monastery when they visit Cairo to see the mountain from which it was moved
The saint Simon the Tanner, one of the saints of the Coptic Orthodox Church, was in the reign of the Fatimid Caliph al-Mu’izz for the religion of God. Saint Taqi was a good man who worked in leather tanning and shoe repair
And has a strange miracle in this era as he moved the mountain of Mokattam from his place from east of Cairo to the status of the current after a terrible earthquake and move the mountain to appear in the current area of Mokattam
After finishing your tour, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cairo
