The real name of Kinkakuji Temple is Luyuan Temple. The gold foil decorations on the outer walls of the temple's core building, the Relic Hall, are nicknamed "Kinkakuji Temple". The temple was originally built in 1397 as the villa of General Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the prototype of General Toshi in the anime "Smart Ikkyu". It was later changed to the "Bodhi Temple" of the Zen temple.
