About this experience

Swansea is the second biggest city in Wales, and a city with a fascinating history. It is a city with a name of Norse origins, but developed by the Normans. It lived through the Middle Ages and became the biggest town in Wales in the 1700s due to the emergence of the copper trade. The industrial revolution created the Swansea we have today, but the city suffered through the demise of heavy industry, as well as the impact of World War 2. From Vikings to copper, from trains to Dylan Thomas, the evolution of this young city is revealed across this two hour tour.

Detailed itinerary

1

We will view and discuss the oldest building in the city before we set off on our journey through Swansea.

2

What was once the heart of Swansea's docks is now a modern and impressive neighbourhood full of museums, cafes, restaurants and even sail boats and yachts. Discover the area's history, origins and evolution as we take in numerous sections of Swansea Marina.

3

Dylan Thomas is arguably Swansea's most famous son. There are numerous things named after him around the city, most notably this little museum, dedicated to the life and work of the famous poet.

4

Swansea museum is the oldest museum in Wales. Time permitting and depending on opening hours, we will step inside the beautiful building and check out some of its most interesting features.

One of Swansea's more unique quirks is that the city beach is basically in the centre of town, much closer than people often realise and spans a long curving swoop of Swansea Bay.

6

We will discuss and pass through the biggest public market in Wales.

7

The new modern wonder of Swansea's skyline is the shiny Arena with its colourful facade and nearby, kooky, Copr Bridge.
