Detailed itinerary

1

Shaori Reservoir is covered with mixed deciduous trees beautiful in all seasons of the year. However in autumn and spring it is a spectacular sight with various colours of the trees reflected in the lake. Shaori is known for its healing properties with cold winters and cool summers (1100-1200 metres above sea level).

2

Nikortsminda Cathedral was built in 1010–1014 during the reign of Bagrat III of Georgia and was repaired in 1534 by the King Bagrat III of Imereti. Three-storied bell-tower next to the cathedral was built in the 19th century. It is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nikortsminda has the Georgian cross-dome style of architecture with a massive dome and twelve windows decorated with ornamented architraves. Interior is decorated with frescoes from the 17th century and the rich ornaments, reflecting the mastery of the late-Medieval Georgian ecclesiastic art.

3

Qvabtkari - the waterfall of love. If you enter the cave, you will get married soon (legend).

4

Barakoni Church of the Mother of God was built in 1753 by architect Avtandil Shulavreli by the local lord (eristavi) Rostom of Racha (1750-1769), commemorated in the inscription of the eastern façade. It is a domed cruciform church and one of the last important monuments of medieval Georgian architecture. The church was built of neatly trimmed stable stand stones and adorned with rich ornamentation. The church was closed under the Bolshevik rule. It suffered further damage during the earthquake in the 1991, but was quickly repaired.

5

You will explore balneological and mountain climatic resort Utsera covered with mixed forests at an altitude of 1150 m.
