Ragusa Ibla or Ragusa Inferiore is one of the two districts that form the historic center of the Sicilian city of Ragusa, extended on a small hill, rebuilt, after the earthquake of 1693, entirely in Baroque style. Starting from Piazza Pola, it is impossible not to admire the remains of the Church of Sant'Agostino, the Palazzo Di Quattro, the Church of Santa Teresa and its Collegio. But this is only one of the many denominations that Modica had over the centuries: among others, the Phoenician Mùtika (hotel, residence: probable analogy with the Phoenician Utica, city where Catone Uticense died), the Sicilian Mùrika ( bare rock, not cultivable), the Greek Μότουκα, the Roman Mothyca. The first news of Sicilian settlements in this area date back to the eighth century BC, at the time of the Greek colonies in Sicily.
