The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery was established in 1981 by the Wild Life Protection Society of Sri Lanka to protect its turtles from extinction.The Hatchery situated in close proximity to tourist areas in Galle and surroundings. It collects eggs and hatch them safely away from sea and land predators. Some people collect turtle eggs for consumption in this part of the beach and establishment of the Hatchery has put an end to this. There are many turtles released to the sea every year with the hope of enhancing these imperil species .
Ambalangoda is the center for making unique Sri Lankan masks. At the Mask Museum, you can browse the vivid collection of these fine artworks, depicting folk stories of Sri Lankan history and culture.The masks are handmade by villagers handed down from generation to generation.
