About this experience

Città della Pieve is a picturesque medieval town in Umbria, Italy, perched on a hill with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Known for its narrow streets and brick architecture, it exudes historical charm. Highlights include the Cathedral of Saints Gervasius and Protasius and works by the Renaissance painter Pietro Perugino, who was born here. Its vibrant festivals, like the Palio dei Terzieri, celebrate the town’s rich traditions and history.

Panicale, another charming hilltop village nearby, offers a serene atmosphere with its medieval walls, cobblestone streets, and panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno. Its highlights include the Church of San Sebastiano, featuring frescoes by Perugino, and the historic Piazza Umberto I.
The Battle of Lake Trasimene was fought when a Carthaginian force under Hannibal Barca ambushed a Roman army commanded by Gaius Flaminius on 21 June 217 BC, during the Second Punic War.
