Our private tour starts with driving towards the northern side of Attica prefecture to Marathon. First stop is at Lake of Marathon, a technical lake which was created from the construction of the homonymous dam. The Marathon lake, until 60’s, was the main water supply for Athens. The Marathon Dam, which is a gravity dam, is an impressive and unique construction due to the reason that its external cladding was made with the famous white “Pentelikon marble” (the same marble was used for Acropolis of Athens).
Our next stop is at the plain of Marathon where the famous battle between Greeks and Persians took place in 490 B.C. You will see the start point of the famous Marathon Race (race in honored of the Greek messenger Pheidipides who ran the distance from Marathon to Athens without any stop in order to announce the victory to Athenians). You will visit the “Tymvos” (Tomb - a burial mound that houses the ashes of the 192 Athenians who fell during the Battle of Marathon) and the Archaeological Museum.
Last stop of the first part of our tour is at the Sanctuary of Goddness Artemis in Vraurona. Amongst others you will see the Artemis Temple, the “Π” Shared Stoa, and the Stone Bridge. You will also visit the Archaeological Museum with findings from Goddness Artemis Sanctuary. Time for the second part of the tour and we drive back to Athens.
We start with the visit of the naturally fortified hill of the Acropolis, the cornerstone of Athens existence. You will travel back in ancient times walking among the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the unique Parthenon & the Erechteion. From the top, you will have a panoramic view of the ancient theater of Dionisos & of the Herodion (Odeion of Herodes Atticus).
We continue with the Olympeion. You will visit the Temple of Zeus and the Hadrian’s Arch.
Next stop is to the famous Panathenaic Stadium (also known as Kallimarmaron) where the first modern Olympic Games were revived on 1896.
Next attraction is the Presidential Mansion (ex-Royal Palace) where you will monitor the traditional Change of the Guard.
Our car will then climb you to Lycabettus Hill with the best panoramic view of Athens (ideal place for taking photos). We continue with driving via Athens main roads with important historic buldings.
