Detailed itinerary

1

The Monastery of Prophet Elias in Santorini: The Monastery of Prophet Elias is built on the highest peak of Santorini, at 565 meters above the sea. This Monastery is one of the oldest of Santorini as it was built in 1712. It is found between Pyrgos and Kamari villages and the road passes through rocky landscapes and vineyards. Trekking there is a nice experience as you can enjoy all the natural beauty of Santorini.

2

Megalochori is one of the most picturesque villages on the island. Its existence is recorded back to the 17th century.

Home to historical mansions, old traditional houses, pirate hideaways and wine canavas, it has a history of merchants and wealthy land barons exporting Vinsanto wine that the island still produces. A prominent feature of the historical homes and mansions are the high walls, inner courtyards and solid wooden door entrances, built for privacy and for safety against marauding pirates.

A great effort is been made by local residents and businessmen to preserve the characteristics and beauty of this traditional settlement, and many of the original houses that had fallen into disrepair, have been restored to their former glory.

3
Stop 3

Red Beach Santorini: The red beach is arguably the most famous and beautiful beaches of Santorini. It is also considered as one of the most spectacular beaches in Greece. It is located in the area of Akrotiri and only some steps away from the ancient site of Akrotiri. The small size of the beach creates a much crowded atmosphere and there are many days where most of the visitors choose not to make it all the way down to the beach and instead admire this unique landscape of red and black volcanic rocks from the headland.

4
Stop 4

The prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini (Thíra) is one of the most important sites in the Aegean. In prehistory it was a well connected Minoan port town, with connections to mainland Greece and as far afield as Egypt and Syria. As the town was covered in ash following a volcanic eruption on the island, preservation of the settlement is exceptional, making this one of the most significant archaeological sites in Greece.

Today the site is covered by a bioclimatic roof and walkways are suspended above the archaeological remains, that allows visitors to walk among the two and three-storey buildings.
