Floating on the placid waters of Lake Como may be relaxing, but embracing a whole part of it with your sight, together with the beautiful town centre of Como and the Alps in front of you would be definitely astonishing.
This private tour will start with a pleasant walk in the streets of Como, reaching both the majestic Cathedral and the Rationalist masterpieces by Giuseppe Terragni. After a rich wine tasting in a cosy bar, matched by cold cuts and cheese, you will be lifted on a historical cableway, up to the charming small village of Brunate. Here, a handful of elegant liberty villas and a monumental lighthouse, dedicated to a major Italian inventor, stand in front of one of the most amazing landscapes you'll ever see.
Designed by a master of Italian Rationalism, Giuseppe Terragni, this massive, 30 metres-high tower was inspired by some sketches by Futurist painter Antonio Sant'Elia, born in Como and killed during World War I. The monument was inaugurated in 1933, on November 4th.
The most important religious building of Como is also the third in Lombardia district for dimension, after the Duomo in Milan and the Charteuse in Pavia. The start of the construction is more or less the same for the three building, i.e. the end of 14th century. The cathedral took the place of the pristine church of Santa Maria Maggiore, which had become too small for the community needs.
The construction lasted more than 300 years, thus the visible styles are Gothic (facade), Renaissance (sides and apses), Baroque (dome).
Itis the most ancient church in Como, probably used as a pagan temple since the Roman periodo. It is famous for its romanesque style sculptures.
It is one of the "gates" of the ancient boundery wall.
It's an impressive exemple of civic tower belonging to the Middle Ages.
This small village may have existed since VI century B.C., but after the Roman settlemen it has been basically linked to the authority of Como. It is well known for is eclectic and liberty villas, leisure residences for wealthy families from Como and Milan, and for the "Volta" lighthouse, a 29 meters-high tower, built in 1927 to celebrate the 1st century since the decease of Alessandro Volta, the inventor of the first electric battery ever.
