Trip to the Royal Delft by car.
Royal Delft, also known as De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles, stands as the sole survivor among approximately 32 earthenware factories that emerged around the mid-17th century in Delft and its surroundings. In the late 16th century, attempts were made to replicate Eastern porcelain using local clay, leading to the establishment of pottery workshops in Delft and Rotterdam. Royal Delft, founded in 1653, saw various ownership changes throughout the centuries, adapting to challenges such as competition from porcelain and economic fluctuations. In the late 19th century, under Joost Thooft's leadership, the company revived the tradition of Delft Blue pottery, achieving international renown. In recognition of its efforts, the company was granted the title "Royal" in 1919. Today, Royal Delft continues to honor its rich heritage while innovating to preserve and promote the art of Delftware.
