After about an hour's drive from the port of La Spezia, we'll arrive in Pisa.
On Pisa's “Campo dei Miracoli” you will find not only the world’s most famous bell tower but also the cathedral, baptistery, and cemetery, which are all remarkable monuments. Although our visit of Pisa is brief, there is time to climb the Leaning Tower; it only takes 15 minutes. We can pre-book tickets for you (an additional expense). You'll still have time to see how many creative shots you can get of your group "holding up" the Leaning Tower.
After about a 30-minute drive from Pisa to Lucca, we will take a panoramic drive around the ancient fortification wall before heading into the historic center.
Your driver will take you around the historic center of Lucca to give you a lay of the land and some background info on the main highlights, which include San Frediano, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, Piazza Napoleone, San Michele in Foro, the cathedral of San Martino.
At San Martino, you'll have the option of entering the church where the stupendous tomb of Ilaria del Carretto is on display (an additional fee). Some say it is the most beautiful funerary monument in Italy, a marble sculpture on par with Michelangelo's David.
If you're in need of a little physical activity, you can rent bikes and cruise the wall of simply go for a walk under the big shade trees. Climbing Guinigi Tower is another great way to get your blood going, and it's do-able even for small children (as opposed to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, minimum age 8).
On the hour-long return drive to port, we'll drive through Tuscany and Liguria before dropping you at your ship at the port of La Spezia.
