Stop 1

Galle Face Green is a half kilometer promenade in the heart of Colombo and was initially laid out in 1859 by Sir Henry Ward, Governor of British Ceylon. The stretch of land was used for horse racing and golf and was known as the Colpetty Race Course.

The Old Parliament Building, is the building that houses the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka. Situated in the Colombo fort area facing the sea, it is in close proximity to the President's House, Colombo and adjacent to the General Treasury Building. The building housed the island's legislature for 53 years until the new parliamentary complex was opened at Sri Jayawardenepura in 1983.

The Old Colombo Dutch Hospital (known as The Dutch Hospital) is considered to be the oldest building in the Colombo Fort area dating back to the Dutch colonial era in Sri Lanka. It is now a heritage building and a shopping and dining precinct.

The prison of the last king is strangely enough located literally within the parking lot of Ceylinco Insurance. You will find portraits of the King along with his queen inside; which you can view through bars. Some of his accomplishments are mentioned along with a painting of his royal standard. This standard now forms the core of Sri Lanka‘s national flag. The back of the prison cell bears a hollowed out section with a bust of king standing within it.

The Fort area in Colombo is one of the city’s most significant commercial hubs and is home to Colombo’s busy harbor, the stock exchange and the World Trade Centre, which is the country’s tallest building. Several buildings of cultural and political significance can be found here

Hotel Nippon. Hotel Nippon takes its place in history as one of the country's first 5 hotels. Built during the colonial era, this Heritage property is protected by the Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka and the Urban Development Authority.

Gangaramaya Temple is one of the most important temples in Colombo, Sri Lanka, being a mix of modern architecture and cultural essence.

The memorial hall was built in 1948 to commemorate our independence from British rule. The unique style of the structure is supposed to be based on the Magul Maduwa or the Royal celebration hall of the last Kandyan kingdom.

The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), is a convention center located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built between 1970 and 1973, the convention centre was a gift from the People's Republic of China, where the construction of the hall was carried out by a joint Sri Lankan and Chinese workforce with a considerable portion of the building materials being imported from China.
