Norwich is a charming medieval city with a thriving arts and cultural scene. On this self-guided walking tour, you'll see some of the city’s most significant landmarks and hear stories its best artistic and cultural highlights.
The tour begins at the Edith Cavell Memorial with the brave story of the British nurse who heroically freed 200 allied soldiers in Belgium. You’ll visit the medieval Norwich Castle, the elegant Royal Arcade with its Art Nouveau splendor, and wander through vibrant Norwich Market with its distinctive striped roofs, continuing a trading tradition that dates back 900 years.
At the South Asia Collection, you’ll see a museum housed in a former Victorian skating rink, which features extraordinary artefacts from India, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia. The tour concludes at the Maddermarket Theatre, originally an 18th-century chapel that became an Elizabethan-style playhouse in 1921, named after the medieval market where madder plants used for red dye were sold.
