Ascend along a fenced path for picturesque views of the Gunung Lebah Temple amid lush jungle. Originating from a Javanese priest's 8th-century meditation at the river junction, the temple expanded 800 years later, marking the genesis of Ubud. Housing two significant Merus—a nine-tier shrine honouring God Brahma in red and a five-towered Meru paying homage to Mount Agung's deity—the temple adheres to a Balinese tradition of capping shrines at 11 tiers.

Starting near the Pura Gunung Lebah Temple, nestled in the lush hillside, this tour will guide you along the one-kilometre stretch to the Ridge Walk‘s northern starting point and back.

On this walking tour, I‘ll help you see beyond Ubud's beautiful green vistas and steep gorges, and share some of the stories most people miss.

Along the way, I‘ll share insight into Balinese culture and traditions. You‘ll hear why a shrine is never built with more than eleven tiers, and find out about the origins of the name Ubud. I‘ll give you a brief history of Bali and reveal who now lives in the Ubud Palace.
