Stop 1

You will have a brief about Hanoi and Vietnam under French rule. There are many interesting stories behind this beautiful church: it's one of the oldest and biggest churches in Vietnam.

This memorial to John McCain was erected because he was shot down near there. John McCain was landed the lake with his broken arms and shoulder. A group of Vietnamese man saved him and then him to the Hoa Lo or Hilton Prison for 5 years. He parachuted into Truc Bach lake where the memorial is located.

Bia hoi or fresh beer is just as much a product of these conflicts and invasions as anything is, so we are going to stumble and stagger through the history of this people’s beer which has become iconic of drinking culture in Vietnam.
