We leave from Perito Moreno at 07:30 a.m. to Los Antiguos (If they stay in Los Antiguos, departure from the Hotel at 08:30 a.m.). We will take SCENIC ROUTE 41 to go past the steppe landscape of 400 meters. s.n.m.
until reaching the High Mountain landscape at 1,500 mts. s.n.m. Impressive views of all the olcanic activity in the area, the Andes Mountains, rivers, streams, a large number of birds, lakes and mountains. 160 km are traveled along this wonderful scenic route until reaching the
Estancia EL SUYAÍ on the shores of Lake Pueyrredón almost on the border with Chile. There we will have lunch and enjoy its natural environment. Then we will go to the ARCO DE PIEDRA on LAGO POSADAS (separated from Lake Pueyrredón by an isthmus) and we will continue towards the Town and then take Route 39 that leads us to Route 40, passing through Bajo Caracoles and finally arriving at Perito Moreno or The Ancients.
Bajo Caracoles is a small town on Route 40 in Santa Cruz, and is the access to the Cueva de las Manos.
It has a historic "hotel" that is an old country bowling alley.
It is a haven in the middle of the steppe, with a service station and views of the distant Monte San Lorenzo, a snow-capped peak in the Andes.
It is strategically located on National Route 40, about 128 km south of the city of Perito Moreno, and is an excellent place to stock up or refuel before touring the attractions of the surrounding areas.
