Your day in a nutshell...
We offer 2 bike hire timeslots....
10.00am-4.00pm with a shuttle pickup from your accommodation at 9.30am
or
11.00am-5.00pm with the shuttle pickup from your accommodation at 10.30am.
The shuttle service is offered if your accommodation is in Blenheim within 15km of our base (our address is 33 Blicks Road, Renwick, so if in doubt, please look on Google before booking or contact us directly to double check).
On arrival at our base you will get the chance to try out the bikes to find one that suits you. You will be given your own detailed cellar door map to keep to refer to during the day and the team will talk you through this to help get you orientated with the area. There is then a short safety briefing and a video that runs through all of the cellar doors that has up-to-date information on what wines they offer, their tasting charges, if they have food available and their opening/closing times.
The team will be there at all times to help you with any questions you may have, and offer advice and ideas on routes and where you might like go. You will be fitted with a hi-vis helmet and given a lanyard to pop around your neck (this has our contact details on it and a reminder of what time your bike hire finishes), then you are free to go and visit your chosen cellar doors and do so all at your own pace. If you need us for anything whilst you are out, the team are but a phone call away.
Once your time on the bikes is finished, you return to our base and our shuttle will be waiting here to take you back to your accommodation again.
If on our 10.00am-4.00pm timeslot, our shuttle should have you home safe and sound by 4.30pm.
If on our 11.00am-5.00pm timeslot, our shuttle should have you home safe and sound by 5.30pm.
You may also bring yourselves directly to our base if you would prefer - we have plenty of free parking available for you.
The legal alcohol drinking age is 18 years old. Please remember to bring either an International Passport ID , or a NZ Drivers License if you are aged between 18-25 years old. (The cellar doors can only legally accept these as forms of ID)
Lunch Ideas
Most of the cellar doors offer cheese/mixed platters and you do not need to book in to get one of these ahead of time - you can just order one when you arrive there to have alongside your tastings. However, if you would prefer something a little more substantial, these are the restaurant options that are within biking distance and to be on the safe-side, we would recommend that you book at table before the day of your bike hire.
The Fancy Cow - 25 minutes biking from our base (Open 5 days, closed on Monday & Tuesday)
Allan Scott - 40 minutes biking from our base – bookings essential (Open 7 days a week)
Vines Village Café - 20 minutes biking from our base (Open 7 days a week).
If you have any dietary requirements, please let us know as we are more than happy to recommend the restaurant/s that we feel will be the best at catering for you.
Note: Please do not book lunch at Wither Hills, Saint Clair’s, Harvest Restaurant or the Wine Kitchen as they are all too far away and therefore not accessible on our bikes - best visited by car :-)
CELLAR DOORS
There is no need for you to book in ahead of time to visit any of the cellar doors that surround us here in Renwick. You will have upwards of 12+ to choose from who are between 5-20 minutes biking from our place and you can simply turn up and they will do a tasting with you.
The ONLY cellar doors that do require bookings are:
*Hans Herzog* - they are a 25-minute bike ride from our base, so if you want to go there, the ideal times to book would be between 12 Noon and 2pm.
*Cloudy Bay* – they are a 40-minute bike ride from our base, so if you want to go there, the ideal times to book would be between 12 Noon and 1pm. Alternatively, maybe you can visit them by car the next day.
*Framingham Wines* - they are a 7-minute bike ride from our base
All 3 cellar doors have a booking form on their website that you will need to complete.
Down the driveway turn right, big grey shed in corner
Your day is your own where you have the freedom to pick and choose who you want to visit and there are upwards of 14+ beautiful cellar doors who are happy for you to just turn up at any time for a tasting without needing a booking.
The exceptions to this rule, however, are:-
Cloudy Bay (a 40 minute bike ride from our base),
Hunters (a 40 minute bike ride from our base),
Hans Herzog (a 20 minute bike ride from our base),
Framingham Wines (a 10 minute bike ride from our base)
If any of these 4 places are on your bucket list, check out their websites for booking details. With Cloudy Bay and Hunters being 40 minutes away, we would recommend you make a booking between 12 Noon-1pm (get the big bike ride out of the way at the start of the day, then work your way back so you are close to home at the end of the day :-) )
There are some cellar doors that we feel are also too far away to get to on a bike, or that the roads to reach them are just not safe - Clos Henri, Saint Clair, Wither Hills, Lawsons Dry Hills - these are best visited by car.
~Restaurant / Food Truck Ideas~
