Founded during the 11th century AC at an isolated hillside below the road to Vourkoti village. It played a significant role to the Greek revolution of 1821 against the Ottomans, having a hidden school teaching the greek language (reading/writting) to many people. The monastery’s printing press printed some of the important scripts that were spread among the country during the efforts of liberating the country.
